The Almac
Sabre is
a two seat, two door convertible, with
individual styling and bags of performance. It
has been designed as a complete sports car, with
all the classic ingredients, low, set back
driving position, a powerful motor driving the
rear wheels and independent suspension all
round.
Body. The
body is manufactured in glass reinforced
polyester resin with the addition of coremat,
Kevlar and carbon fibre to give extra strength
and stiffness where required.
The floors and bulkheads are
bonded to the outer shell while it is still in
the mould. This ensures accuracy when fitting
the body to the chassis. A steel frame is fitted
around the windscreen and then down to the
chassis in front of the door, the door hinges
are fitted to this. Another steel frame
surrounds the rear of the cockpit, attached to
this frame are the door latches and the boot hinges. Bonnet, boot lid and doors are
all double skinned with side intrusion beams in
the doors, headlight pods are bonded in and the
body is completed with detachable front and rear
bumpers.
Suspension: Suspension
is independent all round.
The front is
by top and bottom wishbones with adjustable coil
over shocks, anti roll bar.
The rear
suspension is by lower transverse wishbones with
drive shafts acting as upper links, twin
adjustable coil over shocks.
Steering: Steering
is by power assisted rack and pinion
Brakes: Front:
284mm dia. with 4 piston callipers
Rear:
263mm dia. with 2 piston callipers
Engine and gearbox: First
choice for the engine is the Lexus 4litre V8
shown here with the with manual box, though an
auto can also be fitted, this
engine gives 250 hp upwards and
is front mounted behind the axle line and drives
through the rear wheels.
